Dorothy Brooke’s Birthday

Dorothy Brooke (1883–1955) was a remarkable British humanitarian whose compassion for animals changed the world. Moved by the plight of thousands of former war horses left behind in Egypt after World War I, she dedicated her life to rescuing and caring for these suffering animals. Her efforts led to the founding of the Brooke Hospital for Animals in Cairo, which has grown into an international charity improving the lives of working horses, donkeys, and mules worldwide. On her birthday, we celebrate Dorothy Brooke’s enduring legacy of kindness, courage, and unwavering commitment to animal welfare.

Better lives for working animals. We make it happen.
