Kafr El Sheikh Governorate is one of the governorates of Egypt. It lies in the northern part of the country, along the western branch of the Nile in the Nile Delta. Its capital is the city of Kafr El Sheikh. The equine population in Kafr El Sheikh Governorate is 28,800 animals. This figure is based on Kafr El Sheikh Veterinary Administration statistics (2024).
Based on the Brooke – Egypt annual plan for expansion to reach the working equines communities in- needs for the Brooke – Egypt help, and in cooperation with Kafr El Sheikh veterinary administration, many campaigns were organized since 2019 with participation of Headquarters, Cairo, Mansoura, Alexandria and Matrouh clinic teams.
The campaign objectives includes to raise owners / users and community members awareness about animal welfare and good practices, to reach animals in need for the BHA – Egypt services outside the coverage area, to identify and connect to active NGOs, to exchange experiences and capacity building of local vets in the targeted areas, to discuss with the GOVs official and vet syndicate the potential future collaboration, to develop base line for monitoring and impact measurement (ABIs & Human Behavior Change) and to develop understanding of the gravity of the internal parasite burden in the governorate.
Campaign Results and Impact:
The campaign delivered veterinary services to 774 cases, providing a total of 1,445 treatments, reflecting the diverse medical needs of the targeted animals.
In addition, 54 educational sessions were conducted, reaching 354 participants, contributing to increased awareness of animal welfare practices.
Practical interventions included 135 saddle-related activities and the distribution of 470 noseband covers to reduce injuries, along with 74 farriery interventions (hoof trimming) to improve animal mobility and comfort.
Advanced services were also provided, including 44 ultrasound cases and 2 surgical procedures.
In terms of capacity building, 32 veterinarians were trained, while the campaign targeted an estimated 28,000 working equines in Kafr El Sheikh Governorate.
