Brooke Cairo, Alexandria, and Mansoura organized a vet treatment and awareness–raising campaign in Desouk City, which is located in the far north of Egypt, in Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate.
The campaign was within the framework of the co-operation of the Brooke – Egypt with the Vet Administrations in various governorates, with the aim of reaching the Brooke services to equine animals most in need to relieve their pain and suffering and raise awareness for their owners.
As well as exchanging experiences with government veterinarians and identify new areas to support the organization’s future expansion plan.
The campaign provided veterinary help for 145 animals with a total of 240 treatments and worked to improve the awareness of 140 owners of animals and children about the importance of hoof care, harness maintenance, and the implications of using nose chains, skin lesions, the relationship between nutrition and colic, and animal welfare and handling.
The team provided hoof trimming for 31 animals, maintained 63 harnesses, distributed 55 noseband covers to protect the animals from metal nose chains, and 70 fecal samples were examined. Also, 8 governmental vets were trained about hoof care, colic, skin affections, and animal welfare and handling.
