Brigadier Hassan Sami Abd el Hamid – A Life of Service and Compassion (1939 – 2016)
Born in 1939, Brigadier Hassan Sami Abd el Hamid is a unique figure whose life bridges military service and humanitarian work. From 1988 to 2006, he served as the Director of Brooke Hospital for Animals in Egypt, and continued to contribute as a consultant, remaining closely involved in Brooke Egypt’s mission.
A former senior army officer, he transitioned from military service to animal welfare, leading Brooke Egypt’s growth from 3 clinics and 20 staff to 7 centers treating over 250,000 animals annually.
Known for combining discipline with compassion, Brigadier Sami used his background to support logistics and development within the organization. He lives in Alexandria with his wife Helen, their children, and several rescued pets. A lifelong advocate for animals and their owners, he remains respected in Egypt’s animal welfare community.
